1 May shop closure and opening hours in Hungary: here is everything you need to know

May Day/1 May falls on Wednesday this year. Since it is a public holiday, this means that most shops will be closed. Below, you can find the opening hours of Aldi, Auchan, CBA, Príma, Lidl, Metro, Penny, Spar and Interspar, Tesco, as well as pharmacies, petrol stations and other convenience stores on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Store opening hours on 1 May
Labour Day/May Day is traditionally a public holiday in Hungary, and this year, 1 May falls on a Wednesday. In addition to having an extra day to rest, this also means that most shops will not be open next Wednesday.
Pénzcentrum has compiled a list of shops that will be closed on Tuesday, which shops will be closed on 1 May, and what time they will reopen on Thursday. Almost all the big supermarket chains will be closed on 1 May, with the exception of the multinationals’ petrol station convenience stores and smaller non-stop chains.
Aldi opening hours

On 1 May, all Aldi discount stores will be closed. On Tuesday 30 April and Thursday 2 May, stores will be open as usual (typically 6:30-21:00/22:00).
Auchan opening hours
On Wednesday, 1 May, all Auchan stores will be closed. On Tuesday, 30 April and Thursday, 2 May, the stores will be open as usual (typically 6:00-21:00).
CBA opening hours
CBA and Príma stores are also normally closed on Wednesday 1 May. However, there may be some stores that will be open, which can be found on the store locator available on the CBA website. On Tuesday, 30 April and Thursday, 2 May, CBAs will be open as usual on Tuesdays (typically 6:30-21:00), Pénzcentrum reports.
Lidl opening hours
All Lidl stores will be closed on Wednesday. On Tuesday, 30 April and Thursday, 2 May, the chain’s stores will be open as usual on Tuesdays and Thursdays (typically 6:30-21:30).
