Here are the most and least expensive homes in rural Hungary

The latest study reveals that the priciest homes in the country, particularly those dotting the Balaton region, are neck and neck with their counterparts in Budapest. The findings are worth a peek as they are truly shocking.

The study conducted by Otthon Centrum compares prices of newly built homes in the country and the Balaton region. In the first quarter of the year, the average price per square meter for a newly built apartment in the Balaton region stood at a staggering HUF 1.8 million (EUR 4,750), while a rural apartment commanded HUF 995,000 (EUR 2,500). In a year-on-year analysis, this marks a 15% surge in the cost of rural apartments, a stark contrast to the apparent slow-down or stagnation in Budapest’s pricing trends. It appears the rural areas have a mind of their own.

Sopron emerges as the costliest among cities with county status, with a newly erected flat demanding up to HUF 1.26 million (EUR 3,320) per square meter. Although this figure falls slightly short of the prices recorded in the previous year, writes Roadster.
Debrecen follows closely behind, holding it’s ground valiantly, with a new residence incurring an expense of HUF 1.15 million (EUR 3,020) per square meter. Following Debrecen on the list is Szeged where a square meter of a new apartment is HUF 1.07 million (EUR 2,820). At the end of last year, Győr, Eger and Veszprém were still offering new-build apartments at over a million forints per square metre, but prices have since fallen in all three cities.
