Hungarian economic development minister signs MoU with Huawei

Change language:
Economic Development Minister Márton Nagy and Gao Weijie, CEO of Huawei Technologies Hungary and the Western Balkans, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to further deepen the strategic cooperation started by Hungary’s government and Huawei in 2013, the ministry said.
Nagy is in Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s delegation on a visit to China for the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
The sides agreed that the digital transformation of the economy is an area of strategic importance that holds significant opportunities for Hungary. In order to exploit these, Huawei will establish forward-looking relations with actors of Hungary’s technological ecosystem, and Neumann Nonprofit and professional cooperation forums such as the 5G Coalition and the Artificial Intelligence Coalition will consider Huawei a partner in promoting the digital transformation.

I appreciate Hungary endeavoring to diversify its economic links but closer ties to China are a bad idea. At the very least, trust them with nothing and rely on them for nothing.
Western nations have banned Huawei 5G equipment due to deep security concerns that China can embed spying technology throughout a country’s digital network. Fidesz of course doesn’t care about any of this because it already allows the Russians into Hungary to spy all they want. Orban is a menace to Hungarian and EU security.
