Spectacular video: These are the only safe Danube beaches in Hungary

In a spectacular video, the Hungarian water police have shown which 22 beaches in Hungary you can swim in the Danube this summer. These are worth knowing: following the rules, tragedy can be prevented.

The water police officers of the Budapest Police Headquarters have shown in a special video which 22 designated beaches in Hungary are open for swimming in the Danube. Unfortunately, there are still many people swimming in forbidden places, and many tragedies occur because of this, 24.hu writes.

Last year, 44 bodies were recovered from the Danube in Hungary. Of these, 11 deaths were bathing-related. Few people know that bathing in the Danube is only allowed in places that are not subject to a prohibition or are designated as bathing areas under special legislation.

Places NOT to bathe in

You should NEVER bathe in the following places:

  • the way of boats;
  • within 100 metres of navigation and obstruction buoys, large vessels, floating work equipment and floating structures not intended for bathing;
  • within 300 metres of water steps and water works, within 100 metres of bridges, headworks, other water works, ferry crossings;
  • in harbours, berths and loading areas, designated enclosed water-ski and jet-ski areas and other areas for motorised water sports equipment, boat ramps;
  • in waters harmful to health, in border waters and open waters within towns and cities other than designated bathing areas;
  • at night and in restricted visibility, unless the surface of the water is illuminated and only up to the limit of deep water;
  • and the location of the prohibition sign.
