PHOTOS: Budapest’s downtown Danube bank to be beautifully renewed

The tram line will be elongated in South Buda from Szent Gellért Square. The final stop will be at Dombóvári Street. The planning process is underway, and there are already some astonishing visuals of how the new tram line and its neighbourhood will look. To sum up, the government plans to renew a section of the Danube bank in Budapest’s downtown.

According to Magyar Építők, a Hungarian construction news outlet, Budapest’s Főmterv does the planning of the second phase of the project. The first section of the weaving tram network was inaugurated in 2016, and it developed Budapest’s North-South traffic considerably. Now, the ministry of construction and investment would like to connect South Buda to that line. According to Olga Csákvári, the project leader, the plans of the project only wait for the final touches.

The development aims to create a new tram line on the South Buda bank of the Danube and connect the 11th district with the downtown. The new tram will commute between Szent Gellér Square. Thus, it will pass in front of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the ELTE University, one of Budapest’s most exceptional buildings. Surely, the renewed Danube bank will become popular among students, residents and tourists alike.

Furthermore, the new tram will connect the Infopark, one of Budapest’s biggest info-communication service centre and the newly built housing and office complex near the Kopaszi Dam.
