Monday morning horror: seven cars crash in Budapest

Every driver’s nightmare came true early on Monday morning in Budapest. Seven cars crashed, it took four whole hours for the traffic to normalise.

Accident at Árpád Bridge

Seven cars collided at the Margaret Island exit of Árpád Bridge in the third district of Budapest, according to the police’s website. The situation returned to normal around half past nine. Under as yet unclear circumstances, the cars collided at around 5.39 AM on 21 November in the third district of Budapest, at the exit of Árpád Bridge at Margaret Island. According to available information, one person was slightly injured in the accident.

The vehicles involved in the accident had been blocking traffic. Drivers had to expect congestion on the affected stretch of road. According to the National Disaster Management, the collision resulted in one of the vehicles coming to rest on the tram tracks.

According to the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), trams nr. 1 and 1M between the Göncz Árpád city centre and Szentlélek Square were not running for a short time. The competent authorities have since restored the tram services.
