5 amazing Balaton locations to celebrate 20 August!

Budapest is absolutely not the only ideal place to celebrate 20 August in – Hungary has many beautiful places where it is just as enjoyable and spectacular as in the capital city. In this article, we will list 5 ideal locations around Lake Balaton where you can (and should!) celebrate the Hungarian national holiday this year.

Fonyód, Somogy county

The festivities will last the whole weekend in Fonyód! On Friday, Csaba Vastag, DJ Náksi and DJ Forkmann will heat up the party zone. Saturday will start with the traditional Holy Mass and the St. Stephen’s Day bread offering, followed by a folk dance show. After the much-anticipated firework display, the evening will be rounded off with a performance by the band UFO. On Sunday, the Antal Lányi Memorial Day and The Tihany Echo (A tihanyi visszhang) musical await, and in the evening DJ Forkmann will be back on the turntables.

Keszthely, Zala county

The people of Keszthely are also preparing a colourful and varied programme for the whole weekend from Friday until Sunday. On these days, music will be the main attraction, along with the Saturday fireworks which will start at 9 PM. Starting with the children’s programmes in the afternoons, a series of top-class performers will enhance the atmosphere until the climax of the evenings. The programmes will be made even more enticing by gastronomic exhibitors, wine houses, children’s games and a craft fair.
