Hungary expects even more serious fuel shortage in the coming days

Change language:
Oil is arriving in Hungary steadily after MOL took over and paid the transit fee to Ukraine instead of Russia. Both the government and MOL have said that despite the few days of disruption, domestic supplies were not in danger, as Hungary has enough reserves for several weeks. The shortage of fuel mainly affects the eastern part of the country.
Get ready for more serious fuel shortages
“It is possible that after 15 August, there will be even greater fuel shortages at more petrol stations.” This is what the managing director of holtankoljak.hu, Eszter Bujdos says. According to her, there could be a disruption at any petrol station anywhere in the country. She says: “In the eastern region of Hungary, it is as if fuel is harder to come by. So in Békés County, around Debrecen and in the Hajdúság, we have received feedback that there are more depleted stations.”

However, despite the shortage, it is not a good idea to store petrol in cans in advance, writes atv.hu, as it is a fire hazard and can damage the car. “We do not recommend anyone to store any fuel in a cellar, garage or any kind of container, as they do not have a shelf life of more than 3 months,” says Eszter Bujdos.
