The renovation of Kinizsi Castle has brought about a spectacular rebirth. The renovated courtyard of the castle is scheduled to open to visitors at Easter.

As we can read in 24.hu’s article, according to plans, interactive exhibitions, museum educational activities and cultural events will welcome visitors to the renewed castle in Nagyvázsony.

It will open its courtyard at Easter, and from summer the entire Kinizsi Castle will be open to the public, MTI reported.

History of the castle

The history of the castle dates back to the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th centuries when the Vezsenyi family built a building the size of a manor house. On his estate, around 1463-64, László Vezsenyi, King Matthias’s cavalry master, built Vázsonykő Castle, which was identical to the present-day inner castle.

One of the most famous owners of the building was Paul Kinizsi. He was given the fortress by the king in 1473, after which he rebuilt and extended it. The five-storey residential tower and the second floor of the west wing were completed at this time.
