The Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Centre will soon open its doors to the general public in the renewed building of the former Postal Palace. The country’s first office building was restored from the outside to match its original plans in 1924.
The first office building in the country
The so-called ‘Postal Palace’ on Széll Kálmán Square in Budapest, handed over in 1926, was the first office building in Hungary.
The listed building underwent a complete renovation: with the establishment of the Money Museum, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank wanted to establish a centre for the transfer of historical and practical knowledge related to the use of money and a citadel of Hungarian financial education.
During the renovation, the building was reborn as a new, multifunctional space with modern features, retaining its characteristic Art Nouveau features.
The building was formerly known as the Postal Palace, more recently the Buda Palace, says magyarépitők.hu.

Nearly 100-year-old building equipped with modern technology
The property, built in an Eclectic-Art Nouveau style, originally functioned as the directorate of the Royal Hungarian Post but suffered serious damage from the siege of Buda during the Second World War. After the war, the building remained in use by the post office until the 2000s.
