Budapest, May 10 (MTI) – Local police in Körmend, western Hungary, have not taken action against any migrants, regional police chief János Tiborcz told a press conference on Tuesday.

Police launched an investigation after a window of a local secondary school gym was smashed, and residents of a nearby migrant reception centre were reported as being responsible.

Tiborcz said that police had questioned 21 locals, none of whom had actually seen the moment the glass was shattered but said unanimously that nobody had been at risk. The police chief said the damage could have been an accident, and quoted one of the witnesses who had seen migrants enjoying the sun and some of them sitting on the low window sill at the time.

“The gym continues to be safe and functional,” Tiborcz said, adding that the police would patrol the facility. He also said that an investigation was under way and the migrants had not yet been questioned.
