Finance Minister Mihály Varga, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony, opposition Socialists and LMP and other left-wing parties and organisations marked Labour Day on Saturday.

Varga said on Facebook that labour undisputably deserves to be respected. At the same time, he slammed left-wing parties for trying to gain profit from a “fake promise” of an unconditional basic income. 1. Wages increases to encourage people to stay in Hungary. It’s still abysmal what the minimum wage is and we know that prices are on the rise. If they’re prepared to abolish the PIT for under 25’s, then obviously there’s a budget allocated for that. Obviously the right has ‘selective budgets’ for their election campaign. You want people to stay? Then pay more. It’s no good publishing the gross, it’s the net everyone looks at, that’s what they take home.
