EU may have to help Albania with migrant crisis, says Áder in Tirana – Photos

Tirana, April 5 (MTI) – The European Union must help Albania if migrants use the country as a transit route, Hungarian President János Áder said in Tirana on Tuesday.

After talks with Bujar Nishani, his Albanian counterpart, Áder said the EU “cannot make the same mistake of leaving countries to struggle with the migrant crisis alone” as had been the case with Turkey. Áder noted, however, that currently there was nothing concrete to suggest that migrants wanted to cross through Albania.

Áder said the most important lesson of the migrant crisis was that it highlighted the importance of prevention.

Nishani told the press conference that Albania would take every necessary step to secure its borders and the country will seek to participate in the European action in handling the migrant situation.

The presidents were in agreement that economic relations between Hungary and Albania harbour untapped potential. They both called for developments in several areas, such as tourism, electricity and water management.
