Man stabbed on tram because he spoke out about poor mask use – Video

Not too long before six in the morning on Tuesday, a 64-year-old man was stabbed on tram 1 around Mester Street, Budapest.

As we reported earlier, the mandatory wearing of facemasks has been the cause of many conflicts and arguments in the Hungarian capital, especially on public transportation. This time, things turned violent, too.

According to 24, the man who got stabbed was taken to hospital with life-threatening conditions, while his attacker escaped from the scene of the crime. The police then started chasing the attacker.

Policemen from the criminal department of the Budapest Metropolitan Police (BRFK) have arrested the suspect – as you can see in the following video published by BRFK –, a 40-year-old male Budapest citizen, within a couple of hours in Józsefváros (District 8).

Soma Csécsi, the spokesman of the Budapest Metropolitan Police, told 24 that based on the information available for the moment, the cause of first the argument and then the stabbing was that the older passenger told the other man to use his facemask appropriately. This caused a fight between the two men and, eventually, the older men who asked for the proper use of the facemask was stabbed.
