Quarantine madness, as to say a little Hungarian reality

The opinions of psychology professionals vary about how long a person can endure confinement without depression or other mental problems. Of course, it is dependent on the individual; however, according to the relevant articles, books and blogs, two months is definitely a borderline period.

There are several initiatives to process quarantine stress together. Hundreds of TV shows, social media posts, online blogs and articles are trying to let the steam out of all of us, emphasising that #togetherwecan and no one is alone in this hard situation.

Still, one thing is sure – we are now going through a general trauma.

Coronavirus pandemic and its unavoidable effect of quarantine isolation can be best defined as an abusive relationship, working along specific patterns:

  • Isolation (the abuser completely separates the victim from the people who love him, from the support network),
  • Manipulation (covert influence, insecurity, confusion, contradictory actions);
  • Constant unpredictability and threat (mentally and physically);
  • Confusing the victim’s perception of reality, value judgement;
  • Destroying self-image, self-confidence, and inner self-esteem.

The whole world is aware of the severity of the pandemic; therefore, we have no other option than minimising personal contacts and obey safety measures.

Still, it is also an unfortunate fact that many people have become victims of the coronavirus shock, not only economically, but psychologically as well.

Coronavirus isolation and quarantine solitude can generate panic attack symptoms or even hallucination.

Hungary

Panic has become a dominant part of public sentiment in Hungary as well. The majority of people experiencing similar symptoms, automatically have a fear of death, knowing that is must be defeated alone in quarantine order to protect the beloved ones. There are no words to explain how to difficult it is to everyone.
