According to magyaridok.hu, Audi has been planning to spend 3.4 billion yearly on investments between 2015 and 2019, but this amount is likely to be reduced in 2016. Axel Strotbek recently said that, although they might have a tighter budget in the upcoming year, they will still spend money on new models and technological developments. The company is part of the Volkswagen group which is expected to pay heavy fines due to the recent diesel scandal.
The Győr site will receive 32 billion HUF in the next three years for several projects and developments. Audi’s Hungarian sister company has an important role in the Hungarian economy, and the government fully supported the company during the scandals and is still fully committed towards the VW group.
During their recent negotiation, PM Viktor Orbán and Peter Kössler the Audi Hungaria Motor Ltd.’s new acting manager also discussed future investments and cooperation. The Győr factory employs 11.000 people (20.000 if we count the subcontractors), but the company also manages several kindergartens, schools, and extensively supports the Széchenyi István University. Kössler also said that the factory is expected to be modernized in the upcoming years, which might create new jobs. Also, Audi aims to extend its cooperation in higher education.
