Carpentier, master of magic realism returns to Hungary

According to globoport.hu, the Hungarian translation of the world-famous novel of the Alejo Carpentier, “El Reino de este mundo” called “The Kingdom of This World” has been presented. The masterpiece has been published in collaboration with GloboBook publisher, the Latin American – Hungarian Society (Latimo) and the Embassy of Spain in Hungary again, translated by Andras Gulyas.

There was a great interest in the solemn presentation of the book of the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier, The Kingdom of This World in the Cervantes Institute where a full house received the actors contributed in the re-edition of the book. Julio Cesar Cancio, Cuba’s ambassador to Hungary expressed his pleasure in his speech that the novel can be published in Hungary again, thanking Latimo society and GloboBook publisher for the cooperation.

“Wills and efforts united to republish one of the outstanding works of the Latin American literature, The Kingdom of This World” – the ambassador of Cuba in Budapest said, who spoke Carpentier’s oeuvre and impact in detail, as well as his role in the Latin American literature, globoport.hu wrote.

The Hungarian re-edition of the book became important because it cannot be obtained since the first release in Hungary (1971). There are hardly any books in the public institutions, at the libraries, at schools and universities – Prima Primisima winning journalist Robert Richard Kiss said, adding that GloboBook publisher would ensure that the new book would be available in all public institutions. Robert Richard Kiss said special thanks to Sandor Balogh, president of Latimo and Hungarian Africa Society, without whom the re-edition of the work could not have been possible. At the end of the event, he gave 10 volumes to the Cuban ambassador.
