600 free open-air concerts in Budapest over the summer
Change language:
Almost 400 artists will give free open-air concerts in Budapest from June until mid-August. The aim of the series of events is to bring the historical landmarks of Budapest back to life with music.
Zenélő Budapest (Budapest Music) is being organised for the fifth time this year, reports Szeretlek Magyarország.
This event is unique in Europe both from a touristic and artistic approach: the goal is to promote and present Hungarian cultural values and the uniqueness of Hungarian music. The organisers aim to bring history to life with the help of music.
The locations and styles remain the same, with some additions; thus, you can find concerts that make you feel like you are in a coffee house, concerts that are more spiritual in tone, but nevertheless, the Jazz theme will not be missing.
Almost 600 concerts will take place at 16 different locations from early June until mid-August in 2019.
Some of the new locations include Millenáris Park, the Hungarian National Museum, the Raven’s Gate at Buda Castle, the Cultural Salon of Hegyvidék, March 15 Square and the Museum of Fine Arts. The locations from previous years are the Castle Garden Bazaar, the square in front of St Stephen’s Basilica, the Courtyard of Vajdahunyad Castle, the Central Market Hall, the stairs of the Kunsthalle, the Hungarian National Gallery, Szentháromság Square and the Musical Fountain at Margaret Island.
You can listen to almost 400 artists performing numbers inspired by these locations and by great composers
like Franz Liszt, Ferenc Erkel, Béla Bartók, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Paganini, Bizet, Verdi, Debussy and Ravel. Among the artists are the Hungarian National Philharmonic, the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, but also folk artists, Jazz bands, choruses and young musicians.
