How does online therapy benefit Hungarians?

Change language:

You can do get just about anything online now from food to books, clothing to medicine, jobs to education. And now you can get mental help online as well. This may seem strange to you, but it has been around for over a decade and it has become increasingly popular with everyone from therapists to their patients. Just like anything else, there are pros and cons to online therapy but with this, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. According to Portfolio.hu, 10.5% of the adult population in Hungary have experienced some form of depression and about 18% have been affected by some type of anxiety disorder.

Lack of Treatment

Many of these individuals will not seek help for various reasons such as lack of mental health care, financial troubles, stigma, fear, or lack of transportation.

One of the most frequently encountered issues is stigma or fear. Those who suffer from anxiety disorders find it difficult to talk to strangers or even go out in public and those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or social anxiety disorder can experience a panic attack just thinking about it. But with online therapy, you do not have to go out in public or speak to anyone face to face about your feelings or emotions. You can communicate through text, email, online chat, telephone, or teleconference. This makes it easier for those who suffer from anxiety issues to get the help they need.

Too Depressed to Go

Individuals with depression often make appointments and do not follow through with them due to their overwhelming depression. Chronic fatigue, lack of motivation, and fear can all play a part in those with depression not getting the treatment they need. One of the main symptoms of depression is extreme fatigue and some days it may be a struggle just to get out of bed, let alone making it to the therapist’s office. For those patients, being able to communicate with a therapist online when needed, anytime of the day or night can be a life saver.

No Insurance? No Problem

For those who do not have mental health insurance or are afraid of the stigma of getting mental health care treatment, getting mental health care online is a much better option.
