Szijjarto determined to preserve good Serbian-Hungarian relations

Budapest, September 18 (MTI) – Hungary and Serbia developed the best political, economic and trade cooperation of all time in recent years and it would be a shame if this was damaged by the issue of migration which is far from being a bilateral matter, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Friday.

Szijjarto told a press conference prior to his visit to Belgrade that he plans to clear up all misunderstandings in order to prevent any damage to these good relations.

Relations between countries in central Europe should be further strengthened also because challenges need to be addressed jointly, especially when a common European response is not available, he said.

Commenting on recent Croatian remarks, he said the prime minister of Croatia should have spent his time preparing for the pressure of migration instead of “launching baseless attacks and accusations against Hungary”. Croatia’s migrant services system collapsed within a day and they decided to directly and purposely send refugees on to Slovenia and Hungary, he added.
