Star coach at Fradi! – UPDATE

FTC announced on a press conference on Wednesday the football team’s new head coach: the Ukrainian Sergei Rebrov takes over the NB I-side.

Sergei Rebrov started playing at Shakhtar Donetsk then signed over to Dynamo Kyiv after two years.

The 18 years old striker became a regular quickly in the blue-white team and by the end of the 1990s not only Ukraine but the whole Europe was afraid of the Ukrainian striker duo of Andriy Shevchenko and Rebrov. Rebrov won 8 league titles in 8 years with Dynamo and marched until the semi finals in Champions League 1998/1999. One season later he scored 10 goals in CL and with this, shared the first place in the Top Scorer competition with Raul, Rivaldo and Mario Jardel.

In 2000 Rebrov moved to England and started playing at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, with 9 goals in the first season. After a change in the manager position, Rebrov did not get a place in the starting XI anymore and was loaned out to Fenerbahce, where they won the league immediately.

Then, Rebrov signed to the city rival to Tottenham, West Ham, and returned to Dynamo in 2005. In his last seasons as player, he played at Rubin Kazan in Russia. He helped the team to win the club’s first two league wins.

To date Rebrov is the most productive player of the Ukrainian league with 123 goals.

At the national team he noted 75 appearances and 15 goals. The striker was a member of the country’s first World Cup-team: in 2006 he contributed with one goal to the team’s performance in the quarter final.

As Head Coach

After his retirement Rebrov returned to Kijev and became head coach of Dynamo’s reserve team. He took step after step in his coaching career and became appointed as head coach in 2014.

Under his directions Dynamo won the league after five years again: took the title from Shakhtar and won unbeaten. In the Europa League the team reached the best 8’s round, passing Guingamp and Everton before their defeat from Fiorentina.

In season 2015/16 Dynamo defended its league title and ahead of Porto and, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, went to the best 16 teams in Champions League. In many listings Rebrov was named as one of the world best 50 head coaches. In 2016 he took the 14th place in clubworldranking.com’s list. On the same list Rebrov stays 47th today, therefore FTC’s new head coach is one of the world best 50 trainers.
