Maksa/Bucharest (MTI) – Geza Fazekas representing Gyergyoszarhegy won the Szekely Vagta, which was held for the fifth time, with his horse called Gamma on the Oriaspince top near Maksa on Sunday.
Besides him, last year’s winner – who became second this year – Janos Zsigmond from Lemheny (Kovaszna county) and his horse called Timpex Amata as well as Pal Laszlo and his horse Darius from Gyergyoszentmiklos can line up at the Nemzeti Vagta (National Gallop) in Budapest, which will be held at the Heroes’ Square between September 18 and 20. Sepsiszentgyorgy, which organized the pre-race in Szekelyfold, the Szekely Vagta, can send its raider and horse with a so-called wild card to the Nemzeti Vagta.
“The Szekely Vagta is more than a horse race. It is a real holiday, an uplifting togetherness.” – Tibor Szekely, Captain General of Nemzeti Vagta
The organizers hold the Gobe Futam (Race) too, for horses with non-justified origin. Because of the regulations of the Nemzeti Vagta, English thoroughbreds cannot be entered in the competition. The fact that the horse is not an English thoroughbred can only be justified by documents concerning the origin of the horse. This year, Gobe Futam was won by Andras Balint from Csiklazarfalva with his horse called Szello, MTI said.
