Gourmet Festival attracts world-famous chefs to Budapest

Change language:
The Gourmet Festival takes place in the Millenáris Park from May 17 to 20, on the year’s fifth long weekend, announces Index.hu.
Hungary’s top restaurants, best confectionaries and wineries introduce themselves on the festival. The topic this year is the dumpling, the caviar and the champagne.
Heinz Reitbauer is the festival’s star chef; he is the chef of the tenth best restaurant in the world called Steirereck, which holds not less than two Michelin stars.
The gourmet festival receives Steirereck – who is coming from Wien – as a special guest, but Hungarian restaurants with Michelin stars will also attend.
Kamilla Seidler, the best female chef of Latin America, visits Budapest, and Maksut Askar, one of the executive chefs of Istanbul’s best restaurants, Neolokal, comes to Hungary as well.
He is the new star of last year’s Turkish version of The Diner’s Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants. He is currently working on bringing traditional ingredients back to the Turkish dining tables and rethinking Anatolian cuisine. On the festival, he not only gives an exclusive dinner but also performs on stage.

Last year’s tradition of exclusive dinners thus goes on, but keep in mind that registration is needed in advance. For example, this year has a Polish Bib Gourmand dinner on its menu providing an opportunity for guests to try four Gourmand restaurants from the Polish capital. Bib Gourmand category is defined in the Michelin Guide as excellently prepared dishes offered at a relatively moderate price. In Hungary the restaurants Fricska, Petrus and Stand25 fall into this category, while the Polish Ale Wino, Brasserie Warsawska, Butchery&Wine and Kieliszki na Próznej hold the Gourmand title.
