FM Szijjarto: Hungary decisions in line with European values, rules

Budapest, June 12 (MTI) – Consultations with the European Commission have shown that all decisions by the Hungarian government and parliament are in line with European values and legal regulations, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Friday.

Szijjarto told public news channel M1 that many “untrue reports” were made about Hungary in recent years and double standards were often applied against the country. Yet, the government was continuously consulting with the European Commission in connection with every important decision by the government and parliament, and an agreement was reached in every significant issue, he added.

Szijjarto said that prime ministers and foreign ministers from the Visegrad Four countries held talks about immigration in Brussels on Thursday. Each country confirmed its position that they support the principle of voluntary action in keeping with an earlier decision by the European Council. They maintain the view that it would be a “bad idea” for the EC to make it obligatory for member countries to receive a certain number of immigrants.
