There is a small town near Budapest, called Veresegyháza. Here, you can find a unique kind of zoo, the Bear Farm. Magyarorszagom.hu writes about this special place.
About the farm
The Bear Farm became famous very quickly, and today, it is the fifth most visited zoo in Hungary.
The aim of the founders was to guarantee a safe environment, where visitors can admire the animals without disturbing them.
The park got its ‘zoo qualification’ in 2009 and admits 200 thousand visitors a year. The facility is five and a half acres big and is the only place of its kind in Europe that is supported by the local government and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).
The farm opened in 1998 and its mission is to save bears living in bad conditions.
About the bears
There are bears from zoos, private owners, and also abroad this is why the population is constantly growing. They live in a separated area with two lakes and twelve caves. Additionally, there is also a forest, where they can climb on the trees or hide in the shadows from the heat.They have plenty of water and big space for playing. The workers keep these bears as free as it is possible in a natural environment.
