Design furniture for the fraction of the real price

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) realized a huge and very simple idea in collaboration with the Furniture Association (Butorszovetseg) and Hungexpo. The furniture and accessory designs made by the designers (drawings/implementation plans) can be downloaded and take to the local carpenter. According to divany.hu, the project which is called Download design is brilliant.

The description of the project says: “community-oriented open design movement is the new form of knowledge sharing. In the name of ecological, social and economic sustainability, the exclusive knowledge of the designer so far becomes public property. In open design projects, it is focused on cooperation and sharing, instead of consumption” – divany.hu doesn’t understand why consumption would decline because of this. Initiatives like this could also open up students to an interest in woodworking and they might even consider building their own workshop at home. In that case, newbies could use some tips for woodshop layout to achieve a smooth workflow in production.

In any event, the topic of this year was “My first home” in the project which is planned for several years. The students found out furniture, for which a student with little money and space desire, but they’re also versatile.
