The captain of the Hungarian handball team, László Nagy, steps down

Change language:
Sport Mindig reports that László Nagy announced his decision to step down from his position as team captain of the Hungarian handball select. The 36-year-old captain made the announcement at a press briefing today. He was part of the Hungarian select for 18 years.
He backed up his decision saying that it was not because of an injury or family-related issues, but there is a much simpler reason:
‘It’s quite simple: the position of the right-back has been filled, the two youngsters, Gábor Ancsin and Zsolt Balogh, can continue in my position in the team’.
The 36-year-old handball player proved his skills at Szeged, Barcenola and Veszprém, having made his debut in the national team in 1999. Even though he took a three-year break from the team following this, he played at 199 matches and scored a goal 728 times. He was even referred to as an idol and icon by Lubomir Vranjes, national coach. Nagy was declared to be the fourth most valuable Hungarian sportsperson recently.
This is a huge loss to the Hungarian team, as he was easily one of the best right backs in the world, but his decision has to be respected. However, we can still catch him on the field, as the left-handed back will stay loyal to his contract with Veszprém. His club can count on him in the future as well, as he is considered to be the best in the back position both on the Hungarian handball scene, and on the international. He scored 8 goals against Flensburg in September, during the Champion’s League.
