You’ve probably heard about Budapest Bakering or bumped into one of their mini buses, metros, trams selling doughnuts in the streets of Budapest. The team came up with the idea to open Hungary’s first DIY restaurant.

But how does a restaurant become DIY? This place doesn’t only offer the traditional experience of a joint dinner or lunch, but also the magical atmosphere of joint cooking. Budapest Makery is a restaurant, where after you’ve chosen your meals, you have to prepare them. You get the oven-ready ingredients on a big wooden cutting board and you can follow the directions on videos, which are available on smart phones and tablets.

The website came up with three reasons why it’s definitely worth visiting the DIY restaurant. First of all, you don’t have to do the washing up. Secondly, meals cost as much as in other restaurants, but the atmosphere is completely different. It’s exciting to see how others do and to hear people laughing and talking. There aren’t too many places where you can meet, chat and do something at the same time. And lastly, you don’t have to experience the nerve-trying waiting until you get the ordered food.
