It seems that we still have to wait for going for excursions and picking snow-drops in nature. So maybe having a rest in a bath and sitting in a sauna can be relaxing, too. Where to go, apart from the Hungarian capital, if we wish for a special atmosphere evoking the past and the joys that healing thermal spring waters can provide? Travelo.hu collected some historical baths still open to the public.
Turkish Spa, Eger
Source: egertermal.huHave a rest like a sultan under the golden cupola of the Turkish Spa in Eger. Having it built by Abdurrahman Abdi Pasha “the Albanian”, it was expanded in today’s time with additional pools and waterpark elements, while its orientalist side still remaining in focus. The cupola was renovated in 1979 and its ceiling was covered with two hundred-thousand Venetian gold-leaves. Supposedly, Ferenc Rákóczi also tried the healing water containing radon, which helps to produce endorphins and reduce inflammation. From the twelve kinds of massages you can choose the traditional Turkish one.
Anna Bath, Szeged
Source: http://www.termalfurdo.hu/The bath was built at the end of the 19th century in neo-renaissance style. After the flood in 1879, the town of Szeged decided to build a new bath. Its healing water is potable, so it is especially recommended in case of having digestive and thyroid disorders. In two wings of the bath, there is the therapeutic section and the wellness-section. Between them, there is a court with a buffet. Saunas are also awaiting visitors. The bath received the highest, four-star rating from the Hungarian Baths Association in 2004.
Árpád Bath, Székesfehérvár
Source: http://www.fehervar-arpadfurdo.hu/This bath was Lujza Blaha’s (Lujza Reindl) favourite one. The establishment renovated in 2010 celebrated its 111st anniversary last New Year’s Eve. The original carved wood cubicles, the decorative cladding and the stuccos were also restored. Beside the Turkish bath and the mosaic flagged tepidarium, a sauna, a steam cabin and an adventure shower were built in another building. The sauna seances are also popular. Moreover, the bath can take pride in its great salt room and ice fountain.
