46th Debrecen Flower Carnival

Debrecen (MTI) – In addition to the flowers, weather became the protagonist of this year’s Debrecen Flower Carnival: the parade of the 16 flower carts and the art groups was held in heavy rain in the civic town.

The organizers had to change the carnival schedule. First, it was decided that the art groups – a total of about 2 thousand dancers and musicians – will perform through the inner city only to the Kolcsey Center, and the flower carts arrive to the Function Room of the Nagyerdo Stadium.

Because of the persistent rain, the march was interrupted: instead of the traditional alternate parade of the flower carts and the art groups, at first, the dancers showed their performances in a shortened route, and then the flower carts marched through one after the other from the downtown to Nagyerdo.

The 46^th Debrecen Flower Carnival began with the procession of cyclist this time again, then the coat of arms of Debrecen and the flower cart displaying St. Stephen’s crown and coronation jewels rolled in front of the Great Temple.

True to the traditions, bishops of the historic churches had blessed the new bread in front of the Great Temple, and then the carnival parade started.
